Manston Hydrogen Plant Industrial

DMWR Architects were commissioned to develop a design for the UK’s first waste to hydrogen plant in the UK.

Working alongside client Hydrogen TE, we have been employed as Architect and Lead Designer to bring forward this innovative development, including a hydrogen plant and a state-of-the-art visitor centre. Located close to Manston Airport, the A2 and the port of Ramsgate, this is a very well-connected site.

What DMWR did

DMWR and a core group of consultants are engaged by Hydrogen TE to develop this pioneering venture that marks a major step forward in the UK’s sustainable energy infrastructure. A strong architectural concept, based upon a hydrogen atom, was developed around a large core cluster of industrial plant, machinery and ancillary buildings which make up the operational side of the facility.

A creative strategy for treating the perimeter screening is being evolved alongside a design for the more prominent visitor and innovation centre. This 2-storey visitor facility will showcase the hydrogen production process, its environmental impact and increasing array of uses.

The Outcome

The scheme is in development with the aim of submitting a full planning application in early 2026.

The intention is that DMWR will continue to support this ground-breaking hydrogen production project through to completion and then onto further sites across the UK.
