Manston Hydrogen Plant Industrial
DMWR were commissioned to develop the architectural design for the UK’s first waste-to-hydrogen facility, pioneering sustainable energy innovation.
A bespoke building, equivalent to 10 storeys, for HOLD Self Storage in Chiswick offering affordable workspace and enclosed ground floor parking and unloading yard.
The site is located on a highly prominent junction along Gunnersbury Avenue in West London, very close to the M4.
The location posed a challenge due to the high design standards required by Hounslow Borough and the newly approved high-profile buildings in the vicinity. The small size of the plot also presented difficulties, requiring a bespoke multi-level layout to overcome topographical challenges and ensure suitable access for vans, cars, cyclists, and pedestrians.
HOLD Self Storage
£TBA
Up to 90,000sqft self storage facility over 10 storeys with affordable workspace and enclosed ground floor parking and unloading yard
Through close collaboration with both London Borough of Hounslow and the HOLD team, DMWR developed a 10-storey scheme that was fitting for such a prominent site and aligned with the emerging self-storage brand of HOLD. The design solution addressed the spatial constraints, delivering a building that integrates well into its surroundings.
The building, with a potential Gross Internal Area (GIA) of 90,000 sqft, includes approximately 5,000 sqft of flexible workspace on the second floor, complete with its own access.
The Planning approved building stands just below 30 metres in height and features vertical brick piers, broken by horizontal banding to divide the massing into lower, middle, and upper sections.
Activating the street frontage was a key requirement from Hounslow, which led to a design that includes significant glazing at the ground, first, and second-floor levels, as well as windows that overlook the nearby interchange. The façade was developed in coordination with HOLD’s branding consultant, resulting in a striking entrance feature finished in one of HOLD’s signature colours.
The proposal received Planning Approval in autumn 2024, and construction is scheduled to begin in early 2026.
Once completed, the scheme will provide a high-quality, well-integrated self-storage facility with modern workspace, contributing to the urban fabric of Chiswick and enhancing the visibility of the HOLD brand in this prominent location.
