What DMWR did

DMWR supported the scheme through a successful Planning Appeal and subsequently prepared RIBA Stage 3/4 Tender information. They were then novated to the contractor, McAleer and Rushe, acting as Architect, BIM Coordinator, and Lead Consultant through RIBA Stages 4–7.

A key responsibility was developing a buildable brick façade design using traditional brickwork methods, achieved through close collaboration with Guildford City Council and the contractor to avoid precast technology or brick slips.

The Outcome

Planning approval was secured in 2018, and despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, construction was completed ahead of the 2021–22 student intake.

The result is a high-quality, thoughtfully designed student living environment that enhances the local context and provides a vibrant community space.
