International Departure Lounge, Gatwick
Part of the design team delivering the North Terminal Departures Lounge extension at Gatwick Airport, enhancing passenger experience.
DMWR provided architectural delivery services for shell and core internal fit-outs for both retail and food and beverage units within Gatwick Airport, working under Balfour Beatty.
DMWR acted as Architectural Designer and Lead Consultant, coordinating the output of other disciplines.
The units included Costa (approximately 2,000 sqft) and M&S (approximately 1,000 sqft) within the South Terminal of Gatwick Airport. Both units required an extensive strip-out and detailed suite of surveys to enable to proposals to sit seamlessly within the South Terminal Revit model.
The prominent 'landside' location of these projects posed challenges in terms of safety and timely delivery, as the airport environment is open to the public 24/7.
DMWR led the design and coordination of these fit-outs, ensuring that both units met the high standards required for airport retail spaces. The team worked closely with the contractors, security consultants, and Gatwick Airport Limited (GAL) to ensure smooth site operations.
Given the complexity of working in such a dynamic environment, DMWR's role included managing the interfaces between the various stakeholders and ensuring all design and safety regulations were adhered to throughout the process.
The Costa and M&S units were successfully completed within the given timescale, with minimal disruption to the public and airport operations.
DMWR's careful coordination ensured that the fit-outs were executed flawlessly, allowing both retailers to begin operations as planned within the bustling environment of Gatwick's South Terminal.
