Our fantastic new project in Nairobi, Kenya expanded DMWR into an international company. This project is for a 1000 bed student accommodation development on behalf of a Kenyan developer backed by a London based investor. We were asked to develop a scheme from RIBA Stage 2 (Concept Design) and develop through to RIBA Stage 4 (Detailed Design). Due to the very different development dynamic in Kenya, the pivotal Planning stage which we are used to is far less onerous in Nairobi, and allows the detailed design to be developed immediately after the concept has been agreed with the Client. This allowed the DMWR role to be condensed down to 20 intensive weeks following an initial site visit and brief. In this instance there were 3 trips to Nairobi during the Concept phases to align our vision with the Client. Following our handover of RIBA 4 information, the local Kenyan based architect (who was shadowing the project since our involvement) will deliver the scheme. This scheme was developed wholly in Revit and the model produced was the key deliverable at the end of the project.
