The existing London Regatta Centre opened in 2000 and is operated by the Royal Albert Dock Trust (RADT). DMWR’s brief was to design a new internal layout for the existing building. The new layout separates the water sports facilities from the fitness area and allows a commercial gym business to operate. The facilities will each have their own entrance points. The completed project will provide more accommodation and better accessibility and circulation around the building.
We are working closely with clients Active Newham and RADT and other stakeholders, including London Youth Rowing and the Sea Cadets, to ensure our design meets their requirements and expectations.
Full planning permission was granted this week and works are expected to commence on site in summer this year.
The centre was originally designed by Ian Ritchie Architects and won the Civic Trust Award (2002), Royal Fine Art Commission Trust Sports Building of the Year(2000), and RIBA Award (2000).
